Benchmark indices traded flat on Tuesday as investors booked profit and stayed cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) fifth monetary policy meet that begins today.
The S&P BSE Sensex was down 73 points, or 0.18 per cent, at 40,730 levels. Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra (all down over 0.9 per cent) were the top gainers in the Sensex pack. Conversely, Tata Steel and Vedanta (both down over 1 per cent) were the top losers.
The broader Nifty50 index gave up the 12,050 level and was trading around 12,030 levels, down 20 points.
The Nifty sectoral indices were trading mixed. Nifty Metal index (down over 1%) dipped the most, while Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Auto indexes were both up 0.3 per cent each.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index gained 13 points, or 0.09 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index was up 16 points, or 0.12 per cent.
